Membership
Membership in MarK9 is open to anyone with an interest in K9 Search And Rescue (SAR) work. While it is a lot of work, it is also fun. There is also satisfaction in knowing you are contributing and giving back to your community.
Much of our time is spent training to gain and keep our knowledge, skills and abilities. A K9 Team consists of a K9 handler, their canine and a support person. All deployable MarK9 members are required to learn how to be a support person. A support person must have skills in a number of areas such as navigation, wilderness first aid, CPR, search theory, search technique, incident command, communications, helicopter safety and wilderness survival. If you are interested in being a dog handler, you will also need to learn how to train, observe and care for your canine partner.
While search and rescue work is fun, it is also a very serious activity. Peoples lives will often depend on our competence and readiness. Additionally, we often place ourselves in situations which can quickly become dangerous if not managed effectively. Accordingly, MarK9 members make a commitment to develop and keep current the knowledge, skills and abilities required to complete our missions successfully and safely. All MarK9 support personnel, K9 handlers as well as their K9 partners are required to have current certifications in order to be deployable.
If you are interested in volunteering and supporting K9 SAR in a way other than training and deploying, MarK9 also has administrative jobs, fundraising needs, etc.,
Please contact us if you are interested in becoming a member MarK9
